This is a very important quote if you want to live the right life. This quote helps you realize what your actions are doing. If their right or wrong which is important in life. Such as deciding to sleep in for 20 more minutes. That is wrong but if you don't act accordingly you will suffer. You will get to work late and your boss will take notice of this. So when you're in line for that promotion that will pop into their brain. You probably won't get it since you lack initiative and responsibility. But get there on time and show that you choose the right. Then they will trust you more and rely on you. That way when they think of who should get it you will be the first one that comes to mind.
