Columbus day

Columbus set sail in 1492. He arrived in the bahamas in 1492. The new land was already inhabited. People that many believed were asians who crossed the land bridge between asia and america that was form during the last ice age. Columbus wasn't the first european to travel to the americas. It is believed that it was Leif Eriksson. In 1937 president roosevelt made october 12 columbus day. In 1971 president nixon declared columbus day a national holiday every second monday of october. Columbus day celebrates the day columbus made his landing on the bahamas.

 

I think that columbus is getting credit he doesn't deserve. Many others made it to the new world before him and there is evidence supporting that. He wasn't even the first to discover that the world is round. So i dont know about this holiday
